usAR guide App - Case Study
Concept
People don't like reading those User Guide papers which are almost like a small book and they struggle when it comes to assemble 3D objects by 2D instruction papers. So we wanted to design an app that can help users in their assembling process by showing all steps virtually.
Team: I have worked with seven AI Engineer fellows.

Insights form Researchs
- People don't like to read those long instructional manuals, they want to get to the target point ASAP.
- People have it hard when it comes to assemble a 3D object by using 2D user guides.
- People are tend to buy objects which need less assembly.
- Animations help in mentally visualizing a process or a procedure, resulting in a reduction of cognitive load compared to a situation in which the process or the procedure has to be reconstructed from a series of static pictures. T.N. Hoffler, D. Leutner (2007).

Problem Statement
People buy almost everything unassembled in boxes. When they get home they get overwhelmed with the whole assembly process they are gonna have to go through in order to get that object they picked out from the catalogue. They struggle when it comes to assemble 3D objects by using 2D instruction manuals, user guides.
Hypothesis
During interviews with users, I discovered that people have it hard when it comes to assemble the object that they have bought.
Therefore, I believe that by creating an app that does have step by step virtual user guide, it can offer users the ability to assemble easily and in a shorter time.
I might do this by creating a 'Virtual User Guide App' that lets them to virtually understand how to assemble and control their assembling process step by step that avoids any mistakes in the assembling process.
By doing this, users will have the opportunity to understand the assembling process while they save time.
User Scenario
David moved to Harrison from Gladwin in Michigan to be closer to work. He needs some furniture and storage appliances. He went to Ikea to get all his needs for new home. He bought all his needs that are available in Ikea. He got home and wanted to assemble a chair.
He saw the there is a sticker on the box tells to download an app for time saving and easy assemble. He downloads the 'usAR guide app'. Enters the product's code as told in the app. Confirms that it is the product that he wants to assemble. He checks the necessary tools if they are all provided in the box. He uses his phone camera, shows the part of the product to see assembling process. He assembles the product step by step by following instructions on the app. He gets benefits of assembling a 3D product by using 3D instructions instead of 2D.

Benefits of Augmented Reality User Manuals
- Full replacement of printed manuals or the possibility to use them as an extension of printed materials to ensure precise and easy-to-follow guides.
- Can be used as user guides, maintenance apps, unboxing apps, or in problem solving.
- Ability to use on most modern iOS and Android smartphones or tablets, HMDs such as Microsoft's HoloLens, or AR glasses like Meta.
- Possibility to complete complex maintenance operations without any prior training.
- Availability at any time.
- Reduction of the safety risk.
- Reduced maintenance time.
- Improved results
Future Iterations & Challenges
- Add more products.
- Search other areas instead of furniture
- Keep searching for technology capabilities.
- Work on object detection and 3D pose tracking.
- Keep testing and research.
